Wednesday Update, March 25

Family,
The theme that will guide our worship on Sunday, and the theme I ask that we all keep in mind each and every day, is that in the Beloved Community our Creator dreams for us there is no enmity between the generations. Rather, in the Beloved Community the generations work in harmony toward a shared goal.
There are many scriptural accounts that support this theme. One that makes is abundantly clear is the building of the first Temple in Jerusalem. Both I Kings and II Chronicles tell us that while it was King David that envisioned the temple, it was his son, Solomon, that oversaw its building. This massive project was clearly a multi-generational effort.
This theme is important because in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis there are voices that would pit the generations against each other saying there is a choice between well-being for all and a prosperous economy. We need to reject these voices. There is no need to pit public health against economic health. There is no need to infer that the more vulnerable to disease are an unwanted drain on our national treasure.
It is one thing to say we are all in this together. It is another to act as if we believe what we say.
Peace,
Pastor Jim
A Prayer – God of us all. Thank you pouring our Spirit out on the young and the old, the healthy and the infirm, the confident and the cautious. May the your Spirit unite us, encourage us and enable us to become the Beloved Community. Amen.
