Wednesday After Easter – April 12, 2023
In Service of Religion
In a scene immediately before the crucifixion, a soldier raised his hand and slapped the face of Jesus, our Savior. Why? Because this officer felt that his duty to the high priests demanded as much.
We must be careful not to do violence to Jesus, or his commandments, in the service of religion.
Those commandments are simple: the first is to love God, with all our hearts, and all our souls and all our minds – and let all of our actions flow from that love. The second is to love our neighbor.
If we ever come to a crossroads where we must choose service to religion or service to Christ, the answer is clear. Never do violence to Jesus in service of religion.
