Walk with Us on a Pilgrimage for a Better Future

Lakeshore’s Sanctuary Working Group invites you to join us on a Pilgrimage hosted by Interfaith Movement for Human Integrity to bear witness to the preventable human suffering caused by immigrant detention in California and to offer as a prayer for detention closures, the safe releases of those on the inside, and the transformation and thriving of local communities in our state. Several Lakeshorians will attend the Bay Area portion of the Pilgrimage on Saturday, May 28, and we encourage you to join us either in person or via zoom.

Pilgrimage Launch and Prayer Ceremony at San Quentin State Prison, Saturday, May 28 from 10-11 a.m.

Prayer Ceremony in front of Yuba County Jail, Saturday, May 28 from 4-5 p.m.

Three Lakeshorians: Sergio, Jesse Lucas and myself, will participate in the full 5 day pilgrimage to gather in reflection, prayer and action at the seven ICE detention centers in the state. These facilities detain thousands of immigrants in California each year, separating families and loved ones from their communities. Immigration detention does not need to exist and local communities are in dire need of different kinds of investments for a thriving and sustainable future.

We invite you to follow the pilgrimage, join in the follow zoom events, and offer prayers for us throughout the journey.

Prayer Ceremony in front of Mesa Verde ICE Processing Facility, Bakersfield, Sunday May 29th from 5-7 p.m.

Prayer Ceremony at Chicano Park, San Diego, Monday May 30th from 12-2 p.m.

Prayer Ceremony in front of Imperial Regional Detention Facility, Calexico, Tuesday May 31st from 9-10 a.m.

Prayer Ceremony in front of Adelanto Detention Center, Adelanto, Tuesday May 31st from 5-7 p.m. 

This pilgrimage is the next important step in our efforts to provide ways for the church to live out our commitment to immigration justice and being a Sanctuary Congregation. We hope you a join us on this important journey.
