Vote 2020!

Allison Tanner

September 11, 2020

Voting is a sacred right and responsibility – one that has been hard fought to secure and continues to be threatened, restricted and denied to far too many. I trust you and the loved ones in your life are planning to vote (it’s not too late to register!) this election session. From the top of the ballot to the bottom there are real opportunities to weigh in on the future of our communities and country, to insist that our values be upheld in public policies and practices, and to embody our faith through our vote.

Lakeshore will be hosting a virtual Justice Jam on voting on Wednesday, September 30 to inform our community of state and local ballot initiatives. In addition to a presentation from the League of Women Voters, Representative Barbara Lee will offer a greeting and we will hear from a local poll worker about voting security. Please come and share the invite with anyone interested!

If you or someone you know is in need of assistance getting their ballot to an official ballot drop box or getting to a polling center, please connect me for support. If you are willing to help with either of these potential needs, please let me know. Lakeshore’s goal is 100% participation in the election and we are creating a team to assist in achieving this goal. I can best be reached at allison@labcoakland.org.

Finally, I hope you have had a chance to complete your 2020 census, another essential civic duty to ensure representation in our governmental power structures. If you know of anyone who might not have completed their census, please encourage them to do so!

Praying for peace and voting for justice,

Pastor Allison
