A Lovely Way to Spend a Sunday Afternoon in November
Lakeshore Avenue Baptist Church has long been a faith community with both a heart for social justice as well as a desire to worship creatively and musically. We were blessed to have a time to focus on writing new songs and prayers that pulled all these parts together.
We had a wonderful opportunity to have a series of Bible studies and classes to stretch ourselves, even in the midst of this time of “sheltering in place”. Our program was made possible through a Vital Worship Grant from the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship, Grand Rapids, MI, with funds provided by Lilly Endowment, Inc. Members of the congregation and friends came together and learned about different song formats, short and long, and how they come together, and how they could try writing them, as well.
To celebrate our work with hymn writers Rev. Dan Damon and Rev. Carolyn Winfrey Gillette, we will be hosting a concert/mini worship service, this Sunday afternoon November 22nd at 2pm. Dan will be playing and singing some of the songs he shared with us to help us learn to write our own songs and prayers, and Lakeshore and a few friends will be sharing some of the songs and prayers that we wrote.
Please join us this Sunday afternoon to celebrate the good work that God has done in us and through us.
