Update, Tuesday, February 1, 2022
Family,
Today marks the beginning of African-American History Month as well as the beginning of the Lunar New Year.
Our theme for AAHM this year is “Uniting Through Love and Justice.” Many good things await us. I will be preaching two sermons, February 6 and February 27, inspired by “Until I Am Free: Fannie Lou Hamer’s Enduring Message To America” by Keisha N. Blain.
Oakland City Council Member, Nikki Furtunato Bas sent a Lunar New Year greeting that began –
Happy Lunar New Year!
I am eager to welcome the Year of the Water Tiger, which I hope brings abundance to you and your loved ones, as well as big changes, healthy risk-taking, and transformation for those who accept the invitation...
Check out Oakland Asian Cultural Center‘s wonderful mix of in-person and virtual Lunar New Year programming throughout February, including a community night market, lion dancing, taiko drumming, and folk dance.
Join the Oakland Museum of California‘s in-person celebration on Saturday, February 5 from 12 noon to 3 pm, featuring cultural performances, traditional music, lion dance by Chinatown’s Toi Shan Association dancers, kid-friendly story time, food trucks and take-home art activities. All activities are included with museum admission, with free entry for children age 8 and younger.
