Family,

David Robinson has been representing LABC in the work of the Interfaith Committee for Justice in the Jails (ICJJ). ICJJ is one expression of the faith based community organizing of Faith In Action East Bay. The committee has been doing important work for several years calling on the elected leaders of Alameda County to pay attention to the well being of incarcerated people and their families as well as those who work in the correctional system.

This Thursday evening, January 13, ICJJ is participating in an online community engagement seminar and is inviting LABC members to participate.

I am sure Dave would be glad to speak with you further about the issues involved.

Sheila Sims is our main contact with CityTeam Ministry. She sends along these invitations:

Greetings & Happy New Year,
We have an urgent request from the City Team Crew.   They need volunteers to help them finish off the 3rd floor to get it ready to move the men, who are in the program, back into the building.  Unfortunately, the Volunteers or America building is being sold and they will need to move out by January 31st.

A.    Dry Wall & Floor Installers – January 2022 until March 15th                             Immediate need – volunteers who are skilled labor for dry wall and flooring installation.

B.    Committed volunteers or Skilled Labor (painting, flooring, framing, plumbing) – January 2022 until June 2022   Volunteers need for plumbing, painting, flooring, and framing.  If you are willing to learn a trade, they are willing train.  They will also be able to train someone to do these skills if they are willing to commit six Saturdays to us from 9am to 4/5pm.

 C.    Meals Needed – February 1 to March 15th, 2022   They need help with meals for the 15 guys moving in on February 1. The kitchen will be under construction until March 15.  This could be a weekly, bi-monthly, monthly, or one time commitment. There are two options:

1.     A meal (to feed 15) consisting of Casserole/Protein Dish, Vegetables, salad, and drink.

2.     15 Bag Lunches consisting of a drink, chips, and a meat and cheese sandwich.

Please let Sheila know if you are interested in helping or you know someone who is willing and able to volunteer at CityTeam Ministry.

The above ministries are most certainly in keeping with the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who’s birthday we celebrate this coming weekend.

Join in one of our Zoom study/discussion/prayer gatherings this week. Tuesday 6:00 PM, Wednesday 10:30 AM, Thursday 6:00 PM and Saturday 10:00 AM.
