There is great concern internationally, and certainly among the members of San Francisco Kachin Baptist Church and the Oakland Burmese Mission Baptist Church, over the recent military coup in Mynamar. Here is a statement from the American Baptist Churches.
Pastor Naw San has been able to reach his parents and they are physically okay but he notes that “their world has been turned upside down.”
He further notes “Most able leaders are detained so response is almost non-existent. The military is waging war on the Karen people right now as well. It is a surprise and also not a surprise as the country has been under a constitution dictated by the military. The article by Bertil Lintner does a good job at explaining the rationale leading to the coup.”
Prayers for peace with justice in Burma.
