Family,
No Soup, But Study (Tuesday, 6:00 pm) and Wednesday Prayer and Bible Study (Wednesday 10:30 am) resume on Zoom this week. Please join us as we read the fascinating book of Jonah.
The Hunger Task Force is distributing back to school backpacks in partnership with City Team this Saturday. A few more volunteers would be appreciated. Let me know if you can help.
This Sunday my sermon, the second in “Summer Words” series, will be “Baseball.” The theme of the sermon is that it is the work of God to lead us home.
I am still putting it together but some of the ingredients of the sermon will be:
In baseball, the goal is to return home. Finding home is a spiritual goal as well. Jim Hopkins
“The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it’s a part of our past, Ray. It reminds us of all that once was good and that could be again.”
James Earl Jones (Field of Dreams)
“O God our help in ages past, our hope for years to come, be thou our guide while life shall last, and our eternal home.” Isaac Watts
Origen (184-253 CE) believed so strongly in the strength and mercy of God that he imagined the loving father never cancelled the invitation, never stopped seeking for the prodigal, and never turned his back in disgust. David Bartlett
Prayers for safety and joy for all of our number who will be at the church retreat at Redwood Glen this weekend.
