Midweek Message

Thriving and Finding Peace in the Journey Ahead

Carolyn Matthews

September 23, 2022

God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.

10He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”
Psalm (46:1-3, 10, NIV)

Fall is upon us which means associated holidays and activities. This Sunday is homecoming Sunday and the nominating committee has already begun its work. Harvest Festival, Hanging of the Greens, Blue Christmas, and other Christmas activities are not that far away – and this is church related! This does not take into account our personal/family/work responsibilities that come as the end of the year approaches and world events can take their toll on us.

Psalm 46 (along with the hymns, “Be Still My Soul” and “Be Still and Know”) gives us some guidance on moving through these days in a manner that is more than survival – but thriving as we make the most of coming opportunities.  In taking the time to be still, it is a time to remember, to recount the ways that God has been present in the past and to hold on to the promise of His presence with us in all our days. There is much ahead of us, may we each take the time, as needed, to be still and trust in the God who holds the world in His hands.

Journeying Together in Grace,
Pastor Carolyn

Lakeshore Advent Devotional 2022

Once again we are calling on our members and friends to help us produce a devotional series for Advent that is uniquely Lakeshore. The theme for Advent is a variation of the church theme for this year: Advent: A Season of Remembrance and Restoration.  The  submissions will be published via email each day with a limited number that will be printed. If you would like to participate please contact Pastor Carolyn by October 13; we will also need to know the day and text you chose to write on.  We will need your devotional by November 5.  Thank you for considering taking a part in sharing your voice and heart with the Lakeshore community.
