This Sunday at Lakeshore

This Sunday (October 27) at LABC

October 25, 2019

Family,

These are uncertain days. There is great tension in our nation’s capitol. There are fires raging in our state. There is a hint of smoke from those fires in the air. Along with hundreds of thousands of others, many of us are preparing for a few days without electrical power. Our faith is an essential resource in times like these.

Thus, I urge you to join us as we sing, pray and turn to the Scripture for guidance this Sunday. The PGE website predicts that the lights will be on at 3534 Lakeshore Avenue. It will be good to be together.

October 27th is the first anniversary of the murder of eleven innocent human beings at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, PA. In remembrance of that horrific act of gun violence this prayer from Grace Cathedral will be one of the prayers we lift in worship.

A Prayer In Response to Gun Violence

Let us lament with all those who are touched by gun violence
Let us lament the shooter’s choice for violence
Let us lament laws that allow violent men easy access to guns
Let us lament our politicians’ unwillingness to work for change
Let us lament with the hearts broken by loss today
Let us lament all the lives cut short today
Let us lament, O God, and then let us rise from our knees to work for change
In the name of Christ, the prince of peace. Amen.

The Rev. Dr. Ellen Clark-King, Executive Pastor and Canon for Social Justice.

May we all know the peace which passes understanding in these uncertain days.
