Interfaith Communities Gathered for Pray-In outside Padilla’s office

Dear Lakeshore,

Too many lives have been lost. It’s past time to end the killings.

I encourage you to join me in calling Senator Padilla today to demand a ceasefire, access to humanitarian aid, release of all Israeli and Palestinian hostages, and to stop arming Israel. This call is part of a months’ long interfaith pressure campaign on Senator Padilla to use his leadership to end the horrific loss of life of Gazans, all Palestinians, and Israelis. It is an extension of our prayers and commitment to ceasefire. If you are able to make a phone call – or send an email – please let me know as we are trying to get a count of how many people participate across the state. Below is a call script, and if you’d like to send an email you can find our information in this tool kit.

Thank you for your ongoing public witness!

INTERFAITH 4 CEASEFIRE Call In – Tuesday, July 2, 2024, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

As violence and terror worsen in Gaza, Senator Padilla continues to remain silent. He has refused to meet with faith leaders and Palestinian constituents calling for an end to the war. Join us in calling Senator Padilla’s office to demand he take action. (We encourage you to make calls between 9-12 today, but if you miss this window, please still call!)

Padilla’s San Francisco Office: 415.981.9369

CALL SCRIPT (feel free to adapt!)

My name is [YOUR FIRST & LAST NAME], I’m a member of Lakeshore Avenue Baptist Church and a constituent of Senator Padilla, and I’m calling about Palestine & Israel.

My faith insists that human life is sacred, and that we have a responsibility to intervene when we have the ability to alleviate suffering. Since October 7, Israel has killed nearly 38,000 Gazans, over 15,000 of whom are children. Israel is preventing food and resources from reaching Gaza and, as a result, half a million people are on the brink of starvation. Senator Padilla has the power to speak out against these atrocities, and the responsibility to prevent the use of U.S. tax dollars to support them. As a person of faith, I implore Senator Padilla to use his power to save lives.

Specifically, Senator Padilla must do everything in his power to ensure the following:

1) an enduring, immediate, and sustained ceasefire

2) immediate flow of life saving food, water, aid, fuel and humanitarian assistance

3) release of all hostages – both the Israeli hostages held by Hamas – and the Palestinian hostages held in the Israeli prisons

4) an end to Israel’s military occupation, and

5) rejection of further sale of weapons to Israel

Following the admonition of Pope Francis, “Senator Padilla – use your position to “say no to war and yes to peace.”
