MAY IS

ASIAN AMERICAN, NATIVE HAWAI’IAN, PACIFIC ISLANDER HERITAGE MONTH

A great day awaits as we gather today in worship, for communion, bible study, forum (see below*) and community. Our preacher today is The Reverend Dr. Zulu Lemtur.  The subject of his sermon is “Abiding Love: A Call to Radical Compassion.” The scripture is John 15:9-17.

The children’s story this week, in recognition of the beginning of Asian American, Native Hawai’ian, Pacific Islander Heritage Month,  will be from the book, pictured above, Love in the Library, written by Maggie Tokuda-Hall and illustrated by Yas Imamura. Hallie Randel-Schreiber gifted the church with a copy signed by the author.  In the author’s note at the end of the book, Ms. Tokuda Hall talks about racism in America. At one point she was asked to eliminate references to racism, and she refused. To read more about this and to find out more about the author, click here.

*TODAY’S FORUM will feature Interfaith Movement faith leaders Floricel Ramos and José Rubén Hernandez. Floricel is at risk of deportation and is asking for our support. José Rubén helped lead the hunger strike at Mesa Verde Detention Center last Spring. Come hear their stories and find out how we can offer support..
