Sharing Our Gifts

The Thursday night bible study group completed the study of the first of the pastoral epistles, I Timothy.  In this letter to his young protégé, Paul gave a host of instructions including how to relate to members of the community, selecting leaders, and even help on how to care for his personal needs. Although a young man, Paul warned him to not let that be a hindrance in carrying out his mission and ministry, but instead be an example to the community.

Paul’s words of encouragement can serve as motivation to each of us to do the work that God has entrusted to us individually, and together as a body of believers. As Paul wrote in I Timothy 4:14a: “Do not neglect the gift that is in you…” As we begin a new church year, as we are called upon to help and to lead, may we remember our theme for this new year:

• Restore (as we continue to move out of our isolation) – Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and sustain in me a willing spirit. (Psalm 51:12)
• Refresh (if our spirit is lacking) – “For I give plenty of water to the weary ones, and refresh everyone who languishes.”
• Renew (facing the uncertainty of the future) – “…but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)

As we continue to journey together, may we remember that each of us has a place and purpose in the ministry of our fellowship at LABC.
