Public Witness Forum, October 3 – Following worship, October’s Forum will feature our own Rev. Robert Wilkins, the new Program Director of Seafarer’s Ministry of the Golden Gate (SMGG) and Executive Director of the International Maritime Center. Lakeshore has long supported SMGG’s pub-lic witness of love and support to the seafarers who come through the Port of Oakland, and we are grateful Robert will be leading their efforts! Come find out what is going on and how we can support these essential ministries to seafarers. NOTE: the Forum will take place both in the Sanctuary and on Zoom.
Public Witness Bible Study, October 5 & 6 – In September, we explored different understandings of the Promised Land in the Bible. Expanding on this theme, we will look at land theology in the U.S. context including the theological legacies of Manifest Destiny and the Doctrine of Discovery, as well as current native struggles for the right to live on and care for their ancient homelands.
Sanctuary Sunday, October 17 – In worship we will lift up Lakeshore’s commitment to being a Sanctuary Congregation. We will share some learnings from the past four and a half years, as well as where we hear God’s Spirit continue to call us forward. This service will include testimonies, special music, and greetings from Rev. Deborah Lee, Executive Director of Interfaith Movement for Hu-man Integrity.
Lakeshore’s Sanctuary Working Group meets monthly to explore ways Lakeshore can continue to live into its commitment to immigration justice. If you’d like to join us at our meetings or be on our email list, let me know!
Peace,
Pastor Allison
