Public Witness – Education
This fall I have begun leading Public Witness Forums at 11:45 a.m. on the first Sunday of the month as well as Public Witness Bible Studies at 6 p.m. on the first Tuesday of the month (and 10:30 a.m. the following Wednesday).

September’s Labor Sunday and Moral Budget Forum featured Minister Cherri Murphy, a Faith Rooted Organizer with Faith Alliance for a Moral Economy (FAME) and Oakland City Council President Nikki Fortunato Bas. Minister Murphy discussed the importance of honoring labor and ensuring a living wage for all workers. She also discussed the work FAME and Councilmember Bas have been doing to create a moral budget for Oakland that supports both violence prevention and violence intervention, community safety and services, as well as investment in community parks, playgrounds and the arts. Lakeshore has added our voice in demand of and support for a moral budget for Oakland. You can view the Forum here. (Note that the audio and visual quality improve over time).

I also invite you to join me tomorrow for Christians Against Christian Zionism an event I am moderating for the Alliance of Baptists. This event will discuss the political and theological harm of Christian Zionism, the current driving force behind the intensification of the oppression of the Palestinian people.

Palestinian Christians have asked the international Church to make a clear commitment to challenging Christian Zionism. This event will provide both education about Christian Zionism and how we can challenge it. The program will feature Rev. Erica Williams of the Poor People’s Campaign, Jonathan Brenneman, a Palestinian American Christian and long-time advocate for Palestinian rights in the Mennonite tradition and Larry Hendel, a representative from Jewish Voice for Peace, Bay Area.
