Dear Friends,
Thank you for your expressions of caring for Karen and me on learning of the death of our niece, Megan Hathaway. Megan was the daughter of Karen’s brother Jeff. She was fourteen years old. Karen and I will travel to Denver on Friday for her funeral on Saturday. We will return on Saturday evening.
Our “Ages and Stages” focus this Sunday will be the young adult generation. As part of our worship one of our young adults, Melissa Doktor will be baptized. Melissa comes to the church through the tutelage of Erica Quinn and participation in Soup and Study. Erica will lead the Forum discussion on a recent Lutheran magazine article “Spiritual Nomads” which describes trends in the religious and spiritual life of young adults. Karyn Paige, daughter of Jeanette  Paige will be our soloist.
My sermon, taken from Hebrews 4: 12-16, will be “For Every Age and Every Stage.” I will endeavor to communicate the meaning of the priestly ministry of Jesus the Christ. In so doing I will call on a recent Christian Century article “Tender Ministry: Response to a Betrayal.” My favorite sentence in the article reads “In the midst of all this, Mom wanted Margaret to know one thing she would be cherished, even to the ends of her toes.” The enduring work of priest Jesus is to cherish humanity, even to the ends of our toes.
