Family,
Thanks to all who helped make Sunday’s celebration of Pastor Tanner’s 20th Anniversary celebration such a wonderful event. We are truly blessed to have her as part of our family of faith.
I will be traveling to Seattle early Friday morning for the Annual Meeting of the Evergreen Association of American Baptist Churches. As a church we have many Baptist affiliations and connections. It is our membership in the Evergreen region that connects us most directly to the American Baptist family and its many ministries and missions.
Autumn regional meetings are part of the rhythm of life in American Baptist congregations. They are annual reunions of friends and reminders that we truly need partners in ministry. In my years at LABC I have attended regional meetings in Santa Rosa, Asilomar, Richmond (CA), Visalia, New York City, Kent (WA), Seattle, Palo Alto and San Jose; this expansive geography reflects that fact that we have been members of the American Baptist Churches of the West, the American Baptist Churches of Metropolitan New York and the Evergreen Baptist Association. Let us hold our Executive Minister, Douglas Avilesbernal, our regional leaders and regional leaders across the ABC-USA in prayer this week.
(If you cannot make it to Mt. Zion Baptist Church, join us from home! Worship on Friday October 11th at 7 p.m. and Saturday, October 12th at 6 p.m. will be on Facebook Live from the Evergreen Association of American Baptist Churches Facebook page.
Rev. Dr. Barbara Jim-George’s workshop on Human Trafficking on Saturday, October 12th at 1:30 p.m. will also be available.)
This coming Sunday, the second Sunday of World Communion Month, we will honor our global Baptist family as we share worship with the San Francisco Kachin Baptist Church. There will be songs, prayers and sermons in both Kachin and English. We will observe the Lord’s Supper, a celebration of God’s love in which the symbols transcend language.
Grace and Peace,
Jim H.
