October 28, 2014

Dear Lakeshore,
Thanks to all who planned and participated in Diversity Month. It was a beautiful reminder that we serve a God of great surprises and magnificent differences.
Now comes November. Stewardship will be the unifying theme the first three Sundays of the month. My sermon on November 2 will be “Stewards of Our Memories,” on November 9 it will be “Stewards of the Scripture,” and on November 16 it will be “Stewards of the Church.”
November 2 is All Saints Service. As we consider the ways in which nourish, and are nourished by, our memories there will be time in the service to remember our loved ones who have died, to remember the ways we are continually nourished by remembering them.
The Reverend Dr. Roy A. Medley, General Secretary of the American Baptist Churches USA will be with us this Sunday to bring greetings in the worship service and for informal conversation during the Forum.  (Aaron Hopkins will speak to Forever Young on November 8 and lead the Forum on November 16)
It would make me happy to see you Wednesday evening at Mayoral Candidates Forum in the Sanctuary. It is scheduled to begin at 6:00 and end at 8:00. The topic will be the future of Oakland’s professional sports teams.
