  • Our Outreach Offering in October is the World Mission Offering which supports the  work of American Baptist International Ministries including the work of Nzunga and Kihomi in the greatly beleaguered country of Haiti.

A Prayer

In these times of political turmoil it is important to stay grounded in our faith and prayerful for our nation. This prayer For Courts of Justice from The Book of Common Prayer seems fitting.

Almighty God, who sittest in the throne judging right: We humbly beseech thee to bless the courts of justice and the magistrates in all this land; and to give unto them the spirit of wisdom and understanding, that they may discern the truth, and impartially administer the laws in the fear of thee alone; through him who shall come to be our Judge, thy Son our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen

Prayers of the Congregation

Maxine and Thomas O’Guinn as they grieve the passing of their daughter, Roxanne Jones, Pam Claassen for a friend, Mary Anderson as she grieves her brother’s passing, Mary Sue Meads for family, Carolyn Matthews for her son-in-law and family, Julio Cash for his church family, Larry Hutchings – thanksgiving for his church family, Lola Afolayan for the peace of the world; Rita Jennings (health); Jewelle Gibbs as she recuperates from surgery; Al Johnson and Roy Browner; The ministry of the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty; Peggy Rogers-Tamayo; Gloria and Phil Meads for Siv Larson (health); Dave Robinson for his parents; Zondra and Marty Martin; Leslyn Henry; All who are dealing with memory issues; Thanksgiving for the life and music of Jessye Norman

Rosh Hashanah Greetings, Year 5780

Rosh Hashanah (literally “head of the year”), is the Jewish New Year. It is the first of the High Holidays or Yamim Noraim (“Days of Awe”), celebrated ten days before Yom Kippur. Rosh Hashanah is observed on the first two days of Tishrei, the seventh month of the Hebrew calendar. It is described in the Torah as (Yom Teru’ah, a day of sounding [the Shofar]). Rosh Hashanah begins at sundown on Sun, 29 September 2019. (www.hebcal.com)

I assume you are all aware how important it is that the Oakland A’s defeat the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday evening. I need not say more.
