Maundy Thursday Update, April 9

April 8, 2020

Family,

Please join us via Zoom for Maundy Thursday Worship tonight at 6:00. The link to the service is below. The password is the same for all LABC gatherings. Let me know if you need it. Also, Carolyn and Sandra, who will be leading tonight, are encouraging you to have bread and juice with you for communion.

The name Maundy comes into English from the Latin word mandatum, or mandate. It is connected to Jesus’ new command to “love one another as I have loved you.” (John 13:34) Jesus demonstrated this command by washing the disciples feet.

In reflecting on this central teaching, and the accompanying demonstration of its meaning, Professor Brian Bantum imagines that Jesus said something like this to his disciples as we washed their tired and dirty feet. “Do you feel your feet, clean of that dusty film? Love should feel like that.”

To your prayers today please add Pastor Carolyn for her brother Reynard who is hospitalized in Chicago, Rae Rita Thompson for her dad who is an Skilled Nursing Facility and Sharon Gordon-Greer and family as Louis is laid to rest at Rolling Hills Cemetery in Richmond this afternoon and our Sanctuary Working Group as they work to support persons detained by ICE who are being released to reduce overcrowding in the ICE detention facilities.

Tomorrow at noon Allison will lead Good Friday worship. Please join in this significant observance as you are able. Again, the link is below.

We now have a LABC YouTube Channel by which you can easily access videos we have produced. We will soon be adding an “Almost Easter” Service we recorded in the sanctuary on Wednesday. If you don’t see the link go to YouTube and search for Lakeshore Avenue Baptist Church.
