Magical Music Manifestation

Carolyn Matthews

November 12, 2020

16 Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. 17 And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.

Colossians 3:16-17, NLT

Where is your heart these days? What are you feeling – or not feeling?  This last week took its toll on many of us.  Even with the satisfying outcome, there is much work that needs doing as we move ahead. Just as Jesus took time out to revitalize, refresh, and renew, so we also need those times.

Mine came this week as I turned on my CD player (yes, I have one in my car) and heard, “Whatever it takes to make it/I’m going all the way/I may be down sometime/But I won’t be down always.” As I started to sing along it became apparent that this is what I was missing in my daily journey.   Choir music was no longer a part of my weekly activities and the practices that take place in between formal rehearsals. There is music for most moods and situations – choral and instrumental. My revitalization came filling this unknown void with music.

Some of the members of Lakeshore, thanks to the coordination by Min. Sandra Lee, and under the instruction of Dan Damon and Carolyn Winfrey Gillette, have discovered that writing worship materials is something that is available to any of us. The participants in the hymn writing class have discovered their own capacity to express themselves in lyric, music, prayer, and litany. We have much to look forward to in the way of music written by our own folks.  If you were not able to participate in the last few months, don’t fret.  There will still be opportunity to learn to produce original worship materials. We at Lakeshore will be able to enjoy our own magical music manifestations.
