LABC Updates

There are many opportunities for ministry in our church and community. Please read carefully and prayerfully through today’s email and discover where you may be able to help.

LABC Community, our new software platform is here!!   It’s here to connect you with your LABC Community and Pastors through Realm Connect.  It provides a way for you to donate and set-up recurring giving, register for church events, communicate with your departments and committee, and provide you with an online directory.   Just download the App or register online.   There will be availability on Saturday, at Forever Young, and Sunday, after church if you need help or have questions. There will be availability on Saturday, at Forever Young, and Sunday, after church if you need help or have questions.

This is women’s history month. A few short bios and/or quotes follow:

Maria Skobtsova (1891 – 1945), a saint of the Eastern Orthodox Church, has been honored for her single-minded devotion to the poor and oppressed in France in the years before and during World War II. Near the end of the war she died in a Nazi concentration camp, possibly after offering her life in exchange for that of a Jewish prisoner. Throughout her life of service as an Orthodox nun her primary goal was to embody the Christian ideal of love for fellow human beings.

Patsy Takemoto Mink (1927 – 2012) – Lawyer, politician, legislator – “It is easy enough to vote right and be consistently with the majority . . . but it is more often more important to be ahead of the majority and this means being willing to cut the first furrow in the ground and stand alone for a while if necessary.”

Nadia Murad (1993) – Human Rights Activist – “Deciding to be honest was one of the hardest decisions I have ever made, and also the most important.” “I want to be the last girl in the world with a story like mine.” (Nobel Peace Prize, shared, 2018 – “for their efforts to end the use of sexual violence as a weapon of war and armed conflict”)

Wangari Maathai (1940-2011) – Environmental and social activist – “It’s the little things citizens do. That’s what will make the difference. My little thing is planting trees.” “It’s a matter of life and death for this country. The Kenyan forests are facing extinction and it is a man-made problem.” (Nobel Peace Prize, 2004, “for her contribution to sustainable development, democracy and peace”)
