Family,

Carroll Fife is the Oakland City Council Member representing District 3, primarily West Oakland. She, along with several elected women of color, has been experiencing some hateful verbal and written attacks recently. These racist attacks have even threatened her life.

In response, a petition of support was circulated and a press conference was held to denounce these attacks. I was unable to attend the press conference but I sent Council Member Fife this email.

Hi Carroll,
 
I was not at the press conference this morning but I wanted you to know that I find the hateful attacks directed at you to be morally repugnant. In urging Faith In Action East Bay to sign the petition supporting you I wrote “…the well-being of the community is our big picture goal and such attacks are antithetical to that well-being.” Please know that Lakeshore Avenue Baptist Church  and FIAEB stand with you against the hate directed toward you.
