LABC Update – Tuesday, September 13, 2022

Our Pride Month consideration of David Gushee’s “Changing Our Minds” continues tonight at 6:00 and tomorrow morning at 10:30. This week will be the 3rd of 5 scheduled sessions. We will be listening in on what you are learning from reading chapters 9-13.

In this weeks chapters, one of Gushee’s main points is that Christian traditionalists, who stand against full inclusion of GLBTQ persons in the church, and Christian revisionists, who stand for their full inclusion, both find evidence for their positions in the Bible. They differ in how they “connect the dots” found in the vast collection of teaching (66 books, 1,189 chapters, 31,273 verses) that is the Bible.

He writes that “while theological and moral inquiry rely on excellent biblical interpretation, broader processes of analysis and discernment, in loving Christian community, integrating head and heart, are required to understand not just what a text once meant, but what it means for the believing church today.
