LABC Update – Tuesday, January 24, 2023
Jesus restrained his power, not to show weakness or accept humiliation, but because it was the only true way to achieve the greater good. And this has been true of all our heroic leaders, Gandhi, Dr. King, Mandela, and so many more. To be a real hero, a real leader, you have to know when to hold back and how to redirect your anger. Nelson Mandela walked out of the prison at Robben Island with greater dignity than the one who imprisoned him, then chose to include his great foe in his administration. Abraham Lincoln defeated his rivals for presidency, then appointed them to his cabinet. Dr. King paid school tuition for the radical student Stokely Carmichael, who had called him a coward but later became a profound and articulate voice for the Black Power movement.
