Family,

One of my current community commitments is serving as the co-chair, with Pastor Michael Wallace of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, of the Board of Directors of Faith In Action East Bay.

The mission of FIAEB is to develop leaders who build power through their congregations and schools to bring about sytemic change and improve the quality of life for their families. The organization supports immigrants, works to reduce violence, focuses on a reduction of illegal trash dumping in Oakland, criminal justice reform, and equity and justice for all. We work in both Alameda and Contra Costa Counties.

Allow me to share two FIAEB related invitations with you.

The first is to a Forum this Sunday at 8:45 a.m. on the importance of voting yes on California Proposition 15 , no on California Proposition 20 and yes Oakland Ballot Measure Y.

Briefly put, Proposition 15 is worthy of ou spport because it will reclaim $12 billion dollars annually for California’s schools and communities. Propsition 20 needs to be rejected because represents a rejection of several of the much-needed criminal justice reforms our state has undertaken in the last decade. Measure Y is bond measure that will fund much needed repairs and renovations for the schools in the Oakland Unified School District.

The second is to “Rise Up For Justice,” FIAEB’s annual fundraiser to be held on Thursday, Novemeber 19 this year. The event program will run from 6:00-7:15pm. Yes, it is a fundraiser, but it will also provide inspiring insight into the work of FIAEB, There is no pressure and no obligation to contribute. We simply hope you will be inspired by Faith In Action East Bay’s impacts and will want to do so.

Looking forward,
Pastor Jim
