Sending some marginally connected thoughts your way today…Thank you for the way you credential me. When I step into a room, or sign onto Zoom, as the Senior Pastor of Lakeshore Avenue Baptist Church of Oakland it means something. That is to the credit of all the good you represent…The national American Baptist Ministers Council is meeting for a retreat this week in Nebraska. On Tuesday I joined the business meeting by Zoom. The term “affectionate watchfulness” was part of a litany of welcome to the incoming officers. I really like that phrase…Congratulations to Charlotte Myers who was elected Secretary of the national council…Rick Mixon is leading the writing of a study guide which is intended to be used alongside a Revised Code of Ethics for American Baptist ministers…Jerry Wolf is amazing. I have been asking questions about how LABC could use QR codes to increase access to LABC information. He has some answers. More to come on this topic…A sign of return to in-person life is how busy the Sanctuary is before worship on Sundays. A schedule is now need to make sure that the Voices of Lakeshore can rehearse, needed sound checks can be done and the YouTube feed can be turned on in time to do any needed trouble shooting…The Hunger Task Force is gearing up for a major Thanksgiving Food Distribution this month. 85 turkeys and 60 bags of groceries to help the clients of Ceasefire, Intertribal Friendship House, Harbor House. Berkeley Food and Housing Project and Family Support Services. Thanks to each of you for the way you participate…The Memorial Service for Gloria Joseph will be this Saturday at 11:00 in the Sanctuary. For All The Saints…The 2023 Pledge Letter, Pledge Card and Time and Talent Commitment Form will be arriving in the mail next week. There will be a return envelope included. All are encouraged to return the pledges in-person as part of worship on Sunday, November 20th.
