LABC Update – Saturday, October 8, 2022

Jim Hopkins

October 7, 2022

Family,

I trust that a magnificent autumn day awaits you.

Karen and I would appreciate your prayers for two families which are part of our extended family:

Virginia Romaine and family as they mourn the death of Richard Romaine. Dick was my uncle, the last living sibling of my mother. He died this past Thursday in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.

The Savage/Woodring family as they mourn the murder of Kaitlin Emma Savage. Kaitlin, a young adult, was the daughter of Karen’s cousin Gretchen and her husband Neil. Though the murder occurred several weeks ago the family is, and will be for some time, in a state of shock and anguish. They live in the Seattle area.

Prayers also for the Jennings family as they grieve the death of Ken, Mary Karne as she gains strength at the St. Paul’s SNF, Cathy Phoenix as she recuperates, Jim Dorr as he recuperates from surgery after being struck by a car, for Pastor Brian Woodson as he grieves the death of his mother  and for Declan and Dale Brown for Dale’s son Josh who suffered a stroke.

Peace,

Pastor Jim

P.S. I hope you can join us for worship tomorrow. The central scripture will be Luke: 11-17. In these verses we find Jesus in the borderlands between Galilee and Samaria. The geography is important because Jesus did not come to this “contested territory”  in the name of the Empire or Temple, in the cause of colonizing or conquering. Instead, he came to advance the work of love, the cause of gratitude and the Kin-dom of God. The church has much to learn from his example.
