LABC Update – Saturday, October 15
Family,
Prayers today for the residents and staff of Grand Lake Gardens. A four alarm fire early Friday morning forced the evacuation of all the residents. As of yet none of them have been able to return home. Gratitude for the response of the Oakland Fire Department.
Also, greetings from The First Baptist Church of Denver and the Annual Meeting of the Evergreen Association of American Baptist Churches USA.
The Evergreen Mission Statement reads:
Being a culturally diverse people who are one in Christ
and who value the liberties of our American Baptist
heritage, the Evergreen Association of American Baptist Churches will
build bridges between communities;
provide resources to equip member churches to share Christ and teach
God’s Word;
and translate our unity to the world.
Some quotes from meeting –
Dan Hamil, BJC speaking at the Minister’s Council Dinner – “We are bound to Christ not by citizenship but by faith.”
The Reverend Travis Norvell of Judson Baptist Church, Minneapolis – “It has been many years since Dale Edmondson was the pastor at Judson. Yet, he is still held in very high esteem by those who knew him.”
Pastor Carolyn leading a workshop on reparations – “Reparations for the injury slavery has done, and still inflicts, are needed. I am sorry, but I am not optimistic that anything will ever be done.”
The Reverend Dr. Marcia Patton, Executive Minister Emerita of the EBA – “I find it amazing, maybe providential, that twenty years ago the committee entrusted with envisioning our association included ‘translate our unity to the world’ in the mission statement.”
The Reverend Dr. Marie Onwubuariri, American Baptist Home Mission Society – “Within the constancy of God’s promise and provision, changes are afoot.”
