Great News from Berkeley School of Theology

Rev. Dr. Lauren Ng to join BST Team!

Berkeley School of Theology is delighted to announce that Rev. Dr. Lauren Lisa Ng will join the staff as Senior Program Officer on June 1, 2024.

In her new role Rev. Dr. Ng will be the chief administrator, program developer, ministry innovator, and visionary leader for BST’s Thriving Congregations Initiative grant which will serve Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) congregations and ministers. This $1.25M, 5-year grant program is part of a national initiative funded by the Lilly Endowment, Inc. and will focus on nurturing congregational flourishing, equipping creative leaders, and collaborating for social justice action within AAPI contexts.

About this new opportunity she shared, “Joyfully, the arc of our faith reaches from our histories and into our future, with God tending to both the particularities and the collectiveness of the stories we carry. As I consider the journeys of my AAPI siblings in Christ and the ways we must continue to interpret our cultural, ethnic, and spiritual identities for faithful witness in the world, I can think of no better place than the Berkeley School of Theology for the catalyzation of this important work. As part of the BST team, I look forward to partnering with our vast networks to serve the diverse AAPI community, and indeed all communities, to help cultivate leaders of Christian faith, hope, and justice.”

Rev. Dr. Ng’s ministry experience and her strong ties to the BST community as a 2005 MDiv alum make her an ideal candidate for this unique position and its significant potential for impacting AAPI communities of faith. For the last seven years, she has served as director of Leadership Empowerment with the American Baptist Home Missions Societies (ABHMS) where she developed, implemented, and directed a successful ministry incubator program for creative leaders as well as other projects. Prior to serving with ABHMS, Lauren was on the pastoral team at First Chinese Baptist Church of San Francisco for four years and a minister in training for one year at Lakeshore Avenue Baptist Church, Oakland.

BST is deeply grateful for Rev. Dr. Ng’s openness to the Spirit’s call for this important and exciting work. We look forward to her official start on June 1, 2024.
