Jim Hopkins

July 4, 2024

(Kelly Latimore Icons)

Frederick Douglass (1818-1895) was an African-American social reformer, abolitionist, orator, writer, and statesman. After escaping from slavery in Maryland, he became a national leader of the abolitionist movement in Massachusetts and New York, gaining note for his dazzling oratory and incisive antislavery writings. Pastor Jim will talk about his famous July 5, 1852 address,” What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?,” in his sermon, “There Are Prophets Among Us,” tomorrow.

Also tomorrow, there will be a picnic on the church lawn following worship celebrating Kay Baxter’s retirement as the LABC Business Manager.
