LABC Update – Saturday, December 16, 2023
The Interfaith Council of Alameda County condemns the recent destruction of the Hanukkah Menorah at Lake Merritt as a despicable act of hate and an action wholly incompatible with our values of respect, diversity and inclusion.
Sadly, anti-Jewishness is on the rise in Alameda County as well as in the United States of America. It causes us great sadness to know that our Jewish neighbors are forced to live in fear.
The Hanukkah Menorah symbolizes hope in times of despair. ICAC celebrates this message and the religious symbols that convey it. We call on the community to protect, rather than desecrate, such symbols.
