In a sermon titled “Messiah Complex” the great American Baptist leader, Jitsuo Morikawa quotes theologian George Lindbeck as follows. Where people have no commonly agreed standards of what is ultimately real or good and no filling of their daily life with a sense of ultimate purpose and meaning, they are likely to fall into hedonism leading to social disintegration, or else to turn to tyranny in order to establish a common world view.” These words from the late 1970’s seem very descriptive of our world today.
