A Word of thanks from Minister Sandra
Thanks to all for helping make May a wonderful Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander (AANHPI) month at Lakeshore.
Special thanks to Pastor Carolyn Matthews for curating a beautiful and educational book table for us. There was a wonderful mix of books for children and adults. While the books are moving back to the library after Sunday May 25th, you can still “check them out” from the library. Please take advantage of our resource collection.
Thank you to Rev. Dr. Zulu Lemtur for his thoughtful sermon on Rev 7:9-12. We hope to have him lead a forum later in the year, sharing some examples of Christian faith and how that is understood and lived out by indigenous peoples. He can provide us with an opportunity to see Christian faith beyond our usual Western lenses.
Many thanks to Sheila Sims, Wally Bryan, Sina Carroll and Justin Simon for their help with the May Forever Young meeting. Our guest performers, AHAmele were happy to share their Aloha spirit with us through music and dance. We love their smiles and music, and they appreciate our welcome and food!
Many thanks for special music brought by LABC member and singer, Justin Simon, for his beautiful solo in Tagalog, as well as Ysrael Quezon, for his solo and duet with Julian Nesbitt. Ysrael is a friend of Julian’s from the AfterGlow Chorus and also a member of Twin Towers UMC in Alameda.
Finally, we were proud to present an AANHPI coffee hour with a variety of foods representing many different cultures. Thanks to Dorothy Paul, Alice Singh, Alodia Corpuz, Justin Simon, Nellie Lam & Marc Buffin, Jesse Lucas, Doug Holmes, Gloria Meads, Sheila Sims, Roehl Cinco, Tess Benin and myself all prepared or purchased tasty delicacies that were enjoyed by all. As always, Carol Ash assisted us and made sure that everything ran smoothly. Thanks to each of you for making this coffee hour really representative of AANHPI hospitality!
Thank you one and all. All this happened because of your participation!
Many thanks,
Minister Sandra Lee

All Church Family Retreat, August 1-3
The church retreat provides the opportunity for us to fellowship together outside of Sunday in the beautiful, nurturing environment of Redwood Glen. It is also the time when we introduce the theme for the new church year which begins in September. The theme for the coming year is “Rooted and Grounded in Love,” Ephesians 3:17.
The church retreat is scheduled for August 1-3 at Redwood Glen.
The leader for the adults is Rev. Dr. Petra van De Water, who serves as a chaplain and led our ministers council retreat. She has already begun work on ways to help us hold on to the positives of life, work through the negative, and find outlets for our various emotions. Sign up soon. Retreat sign up forms be available each Sunday in the Narthex or click here to download the form. Scholarships are available. Also, if you have been to and enjoyed the retreat and able to do so, consider contributing to the retreat scholarship fund so others might share in the experience.
