Midweek Message

LABC Update – May 25, 2022

Jim Hopkins

May 24, 2022

1 Samuel 10:1a Samuel took a jar of olive oil and poured it on Saul’s head, kissed him, and said, “The LORD anoints you as ruler of his people Israel. You will rule his people and protect them from all their enemies.”

Our leaders matter. Their words and deeds have great impact. Yet, each individual must choose their own response to the fact that we live in a world in which the supplies of hate, and the stockpiles of arms available to express that hate, are almost unlimited. To our prayers for a grieving and traumatized Buffalo are added prayers for a grieving and traumatized Irvine Taiwanese Presbyterian congregation, the grieving and traumatized throughout Oakland and now, the grieving and traumatized of Uvalde, Texas.

(Please note. It is my sad duty to post something like this at least once a week. I, as a leader, and we, as a community, have work to do in countering the myths of white supremacy and redemptive violence. Jim H.)
