Update, June 1, 2021

Last week a share a prayer from the Book of Common Prayer. In response Mary Karen sent this email –

Hi Jim —

The prayer from the Book of Common Prayer reminds me, I have two prayers from the Saint Augustine Prayer Book, via the Episcopalians, I like a lot:

For Christ’s Presence

Be Thou, O Lord, a light unto mine eyes, music to my
ears, sweetness to my taste, and a full contentment to
my heart. Be thou my sunshine in the day, my food at
the table, my repose in the night, my clothing in
nakedness, and my succor in all necessities. Amen
For Gratitude
Bless the Lord, O my soul
And forget not all his benefits.
Open our eyes, Lord, that we may see all that you give
so abundantly, and teach us to be grateful; for the
things we hold closest to our heart, for the things
that all share in common, for the smallest of pleasures,
and the great hope of heaven. In all that you have given
us, let us see your hand, and let our delight in your gift
become an unending prayer of thanksgiving and an
ever-growing habit of generosity toward others. For
the sake of him who loves us and gave himself for us,
even Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
If I’d ever become an Episcopalian, it would be because of the beauty of their liturgy and readings!

Nah — I’m a Baptist born and bred. But no reason not to enjoy what others have to offer, right?
