LABC Update – February 21, 2022

Jim Hopkins

February 20, 2023

Family,

The Hopkins and Phillips families have returned safely to their respective homes following a weekend gathering on near Lake Shasta. Thanks to preacher Wally Bryen all who contributed to a beautiful service at LABC on Sunday.

There was sad news in Oakland this Sunday with the reports of a very destructive fire at First African Methodist Episcopal Church on the corner of Telegraph and 37th Street. FAME Oakland is both a historic congregation, opening in 1858 (the first Black Church in the East Bay) and an active one, caring for the physical and spiritual needs of many.

Pastor Rodney Smith has made it very clear that the congregation will rebound. I will keep you informed of ways we can support our sisters and brothers in their time of need.

The LABC Church Council meets at 7:05 this evening following Bible Study.

Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday. The Sanctuary will be open for Ash Wednesday Vigils from 7-8 am, 12-1 pm and 5-6:30 pm.

Brian Byamukama has sent word from Kenya that he has been hospitalized. We pray for his recovery. LABC is an active supporter of the orphanage he founded in Uganda, now named the Cherie Claire Orphanage,

Peace,
Pastor Jim

Pastor Jim will lead Bible Study tonight at 6:00. Church Council will meet at 7:05.
