LABC Update – April 28, 2022

Jim Hopkins

April 26, 2022

Family,

As some of you know I have been working with some of the Lakeshore Avenue neighbors, City Council Member Nikki Fortunato-Bas and the Oakland Department of Transportation to figure out ways to slow down traffic on Lakeshore Avenue as it leaves the shopping district and heads into the residential area of which the church is a part.

I am happy to report that we have a plan. Council Member Nikki has allocated some the discretionary funds she controls to pay for the installation of pedestrian refuge island on Lakeshore Avenue where Prince and Santa Ray intersect. While we initially argued for  some stop signs there are reasons, most notably the fact that there is much more traffic on Lakeshore than on Prince or Santa Ray, that, in the opinion of OakDOT, make the island a better option. Installation is to take place by early 2023.

Your ongoing support of the ministry of our church is greatly appreciated. We are checking the mail so feel free to mail your check or to contribute online.

Flowers Needed – For the next 2 Sundays I plan to keep the fountain on the Chancel table, put the globe up on the table also, and cover much of the table with flowers donated from our congregants’ yards/homes.  Would you please include such a request for me in several of your Midweek Messages this week?  People can bring them to the church on Saturday at 1:00 as I will be decorating then or bring them no later than 9:30 on Sunday morning.  (Please let me know if something else is happening on Saturday and if I should chose a different time to be at church.)   You can include my phone number and email for anyone who has a question.  Paige Bence
