LABC MIDWEEK MESSAGE – SEPTEMBER 30, 2026

“By contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against such things. 24 And those who belong to Christ have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also be guided by the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, competing against one another, envying one another.” (Galatians 5:22-26, NRSVUE)

QUARTERLY BUSINESS MEETING UPDATE (from Micky Holmes, Moderator)

On September 27, we held a Quarterly Business Meeting. Three motions were presented by the Church Council and approved by the membership.

  1. To accept the proposed amendments to the LABC Constitution to streamline the governance structure.
  2. To close the Lakeshore Children’s Center (LCC) preschool as of October 30, 2026.
  3. To close the LCC after-school program on October 30, 2026 and to offer a $500 subsidy per child for those remaining enrolled at the end of October to care for the remaining weeks before year-end.

Each of the motions came to the membership after months of discussion, study, and prayer. I want to express appreciation to all who were present at the QBM to hear the thoughtful discussion; for all who worked long hours to conduct a thorough due diligence of the situations; and for all who offered prayers during this time. Change is difficult especially when it requires letting go of a beloved ministry. I ask for continued prayers for all impacted by the closure of LCC.
