LABC MIDWEEK MESSAGE – JANUARY 21, 2026
God’s Ways
As we continue to move and live into this new year, there have already been some intense moments in our country and the world. Perhaps we have experienced our own, personal intense challenges in these days. How do we maneuver today and the days before us?
I recently obtained a book titled Meeting Prayers, edited by Philip A. Verhalen. One of the entries for January is entitled, “God’s Ways” (quoted below). May we hold on to our faith, continue to show up, and deepen our relationship with God especially in our most difficult days.
“As we turn to God in prayer, often we wonder if God really understands our needs and aspirations. Then we catch ourselves, and recall our sense of a wise, all loving creator. Isaiah 55 consoles us with an awareness of how different from God’s perceptions are our perceptions of life. In Isaiah God explains:
‘For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
nor are your ways my ways, says the Lord.
9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
10 For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven,
and do not return there until they have watered the earth,
making it bring forth and sprout,
giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater,
11 so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;
it shall not return to me empty,
but it shall accomplish that which I purpose,
and succeed in the thing for which I sent it.’” (NRSVCE)
