Last July, I went to Washington D.C. to join in the prophetic tradition of standing against false prophets who co-opt religion for personal and political purposes. I was part of an interfaith action challenging Christians Unit-ed For Israel (CUFI), the largest pro-Israel lobby group in the U.S. Under the guise of Christian theology, CUFI promotes Israel’s ongoing colonization, ethnic cleansing, annexation and apartheid in the land we call holy.

In December, I traveled to Bethlehem to join with Palestinians and the international Christian community standing in solidarity and joint struggle, and affirming God’s ongoing work for freedom, justice and equality. Palestinian Christians pleaded with the global community to challenge any form of religion that pro-motes injustice, inequality or inhumanity, and specifically Christian Zionism in the U.S. context.

Next Sunday, June 28, there will be another opportunity to challenge CUFI and Christian Zionism. Because of the need to hold this gathering virtually, I’m hop-ing some folks from Lakeshore can participate. There will be a worship service at noon, grounding our work in our faith, and an afternoon action directly challenging CUFI and the ways they co-opt Christianity to oppress the Palestinian people. I will be speaking at both events and would love to have you join me!
