January 2, 2014

During the months of January, February and March, I will be away from the church on sabbatical. I am grateful for this opportunity to rest, write and travel, but I know I will miss the people, the worship and the rhythms of Lakeshore. I will return in April renewed and ready for a new season of ministry as your Minister of Christian Formation.
In preparation for being away, I have done some initial work on securing dates for summer 2014. I encourage you to put these events on your calendars now – they’re already on mine!

  • July 3 – A’s Fireworks Game and Tailgate Party
  • July 14-18 – Vacation Bible Camp
  • August 1-3 – All Church Retreat at Redwood Glen

While I am away, the ministry of Christian Formation will be in good hands. Helen Harrison will continue leading the children’s programming; Sheila Sims and Karen Okusu will lead youth events. The Youth Writing Project will continue under the able leadership of Amber Picou-Broadnax – we are in the revision and editing stage and hope to finish the book upon my return. Great plans are underway for African American History Month, and Pastor Jim has coordinated with Dr. Jim McAllister to lead a Lenten Forum Series on Christian formation in the early church.
Take good care while I’m away, and I look forward to my return in April.
Peace,
Allison
