It Doesn’t End on 2/28

February 25, 2021

We are coming to the end of February and our celebration and recognition of African American History Month. However, if we remain true to the fact that “Black History is American History,” our education, or seeking after knowledge, or making sure that the whole of the story is told, does not and will not end with February.

The reliance on our phones, computers, and internet has helped to keep us in touch with one another and for many of us to stay employed. For this we can thank Mark Dean. Three of the nine patents on the original personal computer (PC) by International Business Machines (IBM) are registered to Dr. Mark Dean, making him a key contributor in the development of the PC. Dean is credited with helping to launch the personal computer age with work that made the machines more accessible and powerful. He also was part of the team that developed the ability for peripheral devices to be plugged directly into PCs.

As ministry continues during this season of Lent, as part of our Lenten reflection, let us take the time to consider where it might be that God is calling us to participate. Within our education ministry we need teachers for every age group, Vacation Bible School workers, those adept at planning, and many other areas essential to our education programs.  We may not be meeting in person but as I have stated before – ministry continues to take place. And we need to plan now as we look forward to the day when we will be able to meet in person.  Consider this line from Amanda Gorman’s poem, “The Hill We Climb”: “We lay down our arms so we can reach out our arms to one another.” Let us lay down the arms of doubt and/or no experience in our consideration of where we may serve one another.

May ministry calling be a part of our Lenten reflections as we approach the time we remember and celebrate the One who answered the call to give all on our behalf.

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but so that the world might be saved through Him.

John 3:16-17, NASB

This Sunday
Last year at this time we were preparing for the Soul Food Dinner.  This year is no different – just a different way to celebrate.  We will meet via ZOOM to eat together virtually, share recipes, and participate in the program.
