Healing Justice: a three-part Lenten series

March 10, 17 and 24 at 7:30 p.m.

The call for justice permeates Scripture, yet it is a far cry from what we find in our criminal “justice” system. It’s easy to get overwhelmed and outraged with these stark differences. This Lent, I invite you to join the growing community that is engaging in dreaming and visioning what healing justice in our country might look like.

This study highlights the harms of what is currently taking place in our criminal justice system as well as the power of healing justice. Our faith grounds justice in righteousness, redemption and repair. Our mission statement commits us to unite justice with kindness and humility. Come to learn, discuss and dream about what justice is and can be in our communities.

March 10: The Impact of Trauma

March 17: Redefining Justice

March 24: The Power of Healing

Each session will be one hour, on the church zoom. We will begin by watching segments of a film and then discussing the content. I hope you can join us, and, if you are, able – invite a friend!

This study is an outgrowth of the Sanctuary Working Group. As we bear witness to the injustices of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the dehumanizing practices of detention and deportation, we recognize the ways ICE expands upon the inhumanity of the criminal justice system. This has prompted us to ask: what must we do to end these cycles of violence in the structures of our country? Join us in these ongoing discussions, dreams and efforts for healing.

Peace,

Pastor Allison

PS – On March 13 I will be speaking at the American Baptist Women’s Ministries of the West’s Spring Gathering on the theme Just Bible and Lakeshore’s work for immigration justice as a Sanctuary congregation. Email me if you’d like more information about this gathering.
