This Sunday at Lakeshore

Good Friday Greetings

March 25, 2016

I trust that as we observe Good Friday,  Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday that the ancient story will meet us in new ways. Last night at our Maundy Thursday service pastor Tanner reminded us that Jesus’ new commandment to “love one another” leads us on a path marked by service, sacrifice and suffering. Reflecting on this new commandment theologian Miroslav Volf writes, “We don’t need to agree with persons or approve of their actions to love them. The love of Christ doesn’t depend on their beliefs or actions.”
This week brought sadness to the Baptist family with the news that The Reverend Dr. Paul Martin, President of the American Baptist Seminary of the West, died suddenly while on a trip to Denver. We hold his wife Agnes, their family and the ABSW family in our prayers. There will be a Bay Area memorial service for President Martin, likely towards the end of April.
I hope to see you at the Easter parade tomorrow or at one (or both) of our services on Sunday. As a reminder the Sunrise Service is at 6:30 and Easter Sunday Worship is at 10:00.
