Get Ready, Stay Ready: Making the Most of This Moment
Dear Lakeshore family,
As many of you know, I have taken on the temporary, part-time role of Election Faith Engagement Coordinator for Interfaith Movement for Human Integrity. This work entails organizing the interfaith community to engage in defending democracy, should it be further threatened. At this point, the 2020 election has run smoothly, votes have been counted, and a clear winner has emerged. I am cautiously optimistic for a peaceful transfer of power, but current threats and past realities have taught me to remain prepared to defend democracy, as needed. And, as the late Representative John Lewis reminds us, democracy needs defended anew with every generation.
To this end, I wanted to share with you a three part training on Spiritually Rooted Nonviolent Direct Action. The final training is tonight from 7-8:30 p.m. Details are below. Following the lead of Bay Resistance, faith leaders from multiple organizations have united to encourage our communities to “Get Ready and Stay Ready” to defend democracy and ensure a peaceful transition of power. We want to make the most of this moment – both the immediate need to ensure the results of the election are honored and the longer term need to strategize how to work for justice for all in 2021 and beyond. There will be opportunities to discuss creative forms of direct action in the streets and from our homes. You can view the recording of our first training here. Access Passcode: F1*.HXy$
Get Ready, Stay Ready: Making the Most of This Moment, November 19 from 7-8:30 p.m.
If you are worried at all about a peaceful transfer of power and would like to learn more about how you can defend democracy in the weeks ahead, I encourage you to join us. Note this important work can be done from home as well as in the streets – there are opportunities for all to participate!
Praying for peace and working for justice,
Pastor Allison
