In the Community
A core part of our identity is our community activism.
We encourage our congregation to see “work” and “witness” as an integral part of our religious journey. Want to make a difference? Find a cause that you are passionate about, join your neighbors, and get involved

Food insecurity
Food insecurity is a critical issue in the East Bay, highlighted even more during the COVID-19 pandemic. LABC Hunger Task Force is active in working with a dozen community groups to address this issue through fundraising, awareness, meal preparation, and delivery.

Immigration
Justice for immigrants is an international issue with a big local impact. Lakeshore is a Sanctuary Congregation, standing with and for migrants, immigrants and refugees, who are an integral part of our community, our state and our nation. We participate in advocacy, accompaniment, education and public witness, working for freedom, justice and dignity for all who live in this land.

Diversity & Inclusivity
We understand that many churches have been hostile to LGBTQ people. Many have felt rejection and suffered humiliation in the name of God. Consequently, we take every opportunity to reverse that history. You will find LABC marching in a Pride parade and worshipping together on Pride Sunday. You will find LGBTQ people in our leadership as well as in our pews.
At Lakeshore we proclaim God’s love and acceptance to everyone. We believe that the Gospel is good news for all people. We seek to include anyone without regard to ethnic background, cultural history, or sexual orientation. This is what we mean by inclusivity.

Social Justice
Social Justice ensures fairness and equality for all people, and particularly those with the greatest need. The Scripture calls for justice, and the LABC community heeds this call on local, national and international fronts. We serve as a hub for our community to provide education and engagement in the East Bay to address injustice locally and around the world.

Education Equality
LABC supports education and childhood development. For the last 55 years we’ve supported hundreds of local families as they balance work and childcare by offering affordable, high-quality preschool and afterschool programs. We also partner with our local school fundraising efforts and donation drives to support education equity in the East Bay.

Global Partnerships
Although much of our community activism is based in the East Bay, we are also active internationally. We’re focused on communities of need in Haiti, Central America, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. We partner in pilgrimages, resource sharing, and solidarity struggles, supporting global efforts to create a world without walls of injustice, exploitation, or expulsion.
