Sacred Resistance Update

The ancient story of Jesus’ birth reminds us that his earliest years were those of a refugee, forced by state-sanctioned violence to flee his homeland. This Advent, Lakeshore’s Sanctuary Working Group invites you to stand with refugees, migrants and immigrants through hearing their stories, supporting their struggles, and sending a word of encouragement. I hope you can join us for one or more of these Zoom events:

Sunday, December 6 , 8:45 a.m. – LABC Forum Keep Hugo Home
Hear from 14-year-old Hulissa Aguilar and her father Hugo about Hugo’s impending deportation and find out how you can help keep this family together. Hugo is the sole provider for Hulissa. To read more about their story and ways to support them, go to You can also join in prayer with the Hugo and Hulissa every Wednesday from 7:30-8 p.m. via Facebook live (

Thursday, December 10, 2 p.m. – Release is a Human Right, Not a Political Debate
The COVID-19 pandemic outbreak in prisons is a human rights issue, but Gov. Newsom, CDCR Secretary and the AG are treating this as a political debate. Thousands of lives are in jeopardy. We invite you to a town hall where community advocates will answer all your questions about the topic and how to put pressure on elected officials to take immediate action. Contact me for details.

Thursday, December 10, 7:15 p.m. – Holiday Letter Writing
Join the Lakeshore family in writing a holiday greeting to an immigrant in detention. Names and instructions will be provided; you supply the paper, envelope and stamp. Join us at the usual Lakeshore Zoom site.

This vigil will honor the International Day of Migrants and can be viewed via FB live: (

Finally, Interfaith Movement for Human Integrity will host a 2-day training on Faith Rooted Organizing on January 8-9. Please let me know if you have any interest in participating.

As we await the coming of the Prince of Peace, let’s fill our days with the work of peacemaking,

Pastor Allison
