December 2, 2014
In recent years we have been introduced to Black Friday, Cyber Monday and now, Giving Tuesday, a day to support programs that serve the community and pursue the common good. Rather than asking for a Giving Tuesday contribution to the church let me thank you for your support of the ministry of LABC and our mission partners. I am grateful for the ways in which serving together, binds us together.
This coming Sunday will be the second Sunday of Advent. We will light the candle of peace and read Luke 1: 1-4. In this text Luke speaks to Theophilus, a name meaning both lover of God and beloved of God. We can’t be sure if Theophilus was the name of a person or Luke’s name for the community to which he wrote. I like to think that, in important ways, we, the readers of Luke are also Theophilus. In sermon, song and faith-filled symbol we will consider what it means for us to believe that we to are the beloved of God.
